India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah received a demerit point from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his “plane” send-off directed at Haris Rauf during the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan.
“Jasprit Bumrah (India) accepted a charge under Article 2.21 for conduct that brings the game into disrepute and the proposed sanction of an official warning, which resulted in one demerit point. As he accepted the sanction, no formal hearing was required,” stated the ICC’s official release.
The controversy followed earlier criticism of Haris Rauf, who had made a “crashing plane” gesture during the Super 4 match between the two teams — reportedly referencing past military tensions between India and Pakistan. In the final, after bowling Rauf out in the 18th over of Pakistan’s innings, Bumrah mimicked the same gesture as a send-off.
Separately, match referee Andy Pycroft conducted a hearing into an alleged breach of conduct by Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh during the Super 4 stage. The ICC later confirmed he was cleared of all charges.
“Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Andy Pycroft: Arshdeep Singh (India) was found not guilty of an alleged breach of Article 2.”
In the Asia Cup 2025 final, Jasprit Bumrah was issued a demerit point for unsporting conduct, while teammate Arshdeep Singh was acquitted of related disciplinary accusations.
