Cameron Norrie started his Metz Open journey with a victory on Monday, defeating French player Valentin Royer. Norrie recently impressed by beating Carlos Alcaraz at the Paris Masters, who later sent him a supportive message.
Following this, Norrie lost to Shanghai Masters champion Valentin Vacherot, who was eliminated in the quarter-finals. On Monday, Norrie faced a tough match against the world number 56, Royer, but secured a 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 win.
This win marked Norrie’s 31st ATP Tour victory of 2025, moving him past British number one Jack Draper’s record for the year.
Draper rose quickly in the ATP rankings early in the year after winning Indian Wells and reaching the Madrid Open final. He reached world number four in June but has since dropped to number 11.
This decline is due to injury issues that kept Draper out of competition for much of 2025. He missed tournaments from Wimbledon until the US Open because of a left arm injury, which also forced him to withdraw from the US Open and end his ATP Tour season early.
"Draper picked up his 30th and final ATP Tour victory of 2025 when he defeated Federico Gomez in the US Open first round."
Cameron Norrie's consistent performance in 2025 has allowed him to overtake Jack Draper's British record for ATP Tour wins this year, reflecting both Norrie's success and Draper's injury struggles.
