Firefighters in Riverside County are still combating the Volcano Fire near Murrieta. The blaze flared up on 7 July 2026 and jumped over dry slopes. It engulfed parts of the La Cresta area and prompted many locals to escape their homes. Officials say about 75 acres are now alight.
Fire crews continued operations through the evening. Aircraft released water on the flames while ground crews built firebreaks. Roads close to the fire remained closed as crews tried to slow the fire’s spread. The Los Angeles Times and CBS News have provided updates on the response.
